High-speed steel (HSS) rod
Sourcing for cutting tools, punches and dies
High-speed steels are used in cutting tools and wear-resistant tooling. We review sourcing against JIS grade names such as SKH51 and SKH55, bar dimensions and delivery condition.

Product & application
We review the balance between wear resistance and toughness around operating temperature, wear and impact/chipping conditions. Specify whether annealed stock is needed for machining or grinding, and whether heat treatment will be performed by the customer. M2/M35 and JIS designations are not treated as automatically equivalent.
- Supply forms
- Round rod · cut blanks · ground finish by inquiry
- Application examples
- Cutting tools such as drills, taps and reamers; punches, heading and drawing tooling
Define the supply conditions.
These are specification inputs for quotation review. Actual availability, minimum quantity and lead time are confirmed by grade and size.
- Condition & surface
- Annealed delivery condition, subsequent heat treatment and target hardness
- Dimensions & order
- Bar dimensions, tolerance, grinding allowance and sample quantity
- Inspection & documents
- Specify mill certificates, tests, traceability and customer approvals. Document availability, cost and timing are reviewed.

Grades and forms are inquiry examples. Inventory, availability, dimensions, quantity, inspections and lead time are confirmed at quotation.
JIS names are used as a reference. They do not automatically establish equivalence to other standards or certification. Agree the applicable standard, edition and product requirements before ordering.
